In 1978, we planted 2000 pine trees on our farm in Elko, MN. After years of hoeing, shearing, fertilizing, and irrigating, we sold our first cut your own Christmas tree in 1985. Our customers appreciated the opportunity to walk out in our fields and cut their own Christmas tree. In 1991, we opened up our second farm. That farm is visible from Interstate 35 in Lakeville, MN.
We grow scotch and white pine. Fraser, balsam, and Canaan fir trees and Colorado and Black Hills Spruce. We started selling our trees for Christmas, but over the years we have developed a lively landscaping following. We sell ball and burlap trees to the general public at wholesale prices.
In 1997, we opened our Christmas Shoppe. I purchase items throughout the year to sell in our shoppe. We offer thousands of Christmas decorations for sale, many unique and handcrafted. We have a beautiful selection of fine European glass ornaments, as well as papier mache from Kashmir and carved wooden ones from Russia. In 1999, we started selling merchandise from our Shoppe on the internet. This past year, we added jewelry and wedding items to our catalog.
We offer custom made swags, garland, and wreaths as well as trees for sale. Select your decorations in our Shoppe and we will use them to craft a wreath custom made just for you. Over the years, thousands of families have included Revak Nursery in their Christmas celebrations. Won’t you join them?
Tree Care Tips
Merry Christmas to Everyone!
We have been growing Christmas trees since 1978. It takes 7 to 12 years to grow a Christmas tree. Whether you purchase a pre-cut tree or cut your own tree, you want your tree to last as long as possible. Here are some tips to help you keep your tree it's freshest.
Before you bring the tree into your home, decide where you are going to put it. Keep it away from heat sources, fire places and heat registers are obvious, but even a hot window can shorten the life of your tree.
Even if y ou cut your tree in the field, make a fresh cut just before you bring it into your home. Trees begin to seal themselves and hardening sap prevents water from being taken up into the branches.
After you make your new cut, put your tree in a stand that holds at least one gallon of water-and check the water level frequently. Your tree can drink a lot of water quickly and if you should let the water level fall below the bottom of the stump, the tree will begin to seal itself. Once this happens, the tree will not drink any more water.
Before you decorate your tree, check the lights and discard any light strings that are damaged. Also keep in mind that some light strings generate a lot of heat. Substitute cooler burning ones instead. And don't leave tree lights burning when you are away from home or sleeping.
Additives that are added to water purported to prolong tree life have not been proven effective. Just keep the tree stand filled with plenty of fresh water.
If you follow these hints, your fresh tree will be beautiful throughout the Christmas season. All of us at Revak Nursery hope your holidays are happy.
